BOLGUM NAGESH GOUD

BIO

Nagesh Goud was born in 1965,he pursued his graduation in fine arts from JNAFAU College of fine arts, Hyderabad. While working on a project for an advertising agency he came across the artisans who did leather puppetry in Andhra Pradesh and have been doing it from generations. He developed a deep affinity for the traditional leather puppetry and included the  stylistic details of the ‘Thollu bommalata’, (the shadow puppet theatre tradition) into his paintings and sculptures.

The subject matter of the works is similar to the stories that were performed using the leather puppets since olden times. The episodes and anecdotes from, Mahabharata and Ramayana get recreated in the works.

Even though his work largely draws inspiration from the Indian traditional art forms yet he excels in improvising and extending the periphery of his expression into a very personal connotation. It is the novel manner in which he arranges the age old stories, amalgamated with traditional aspects that grant his works a unique texture, tone and accent.

He has participated in many group shows and a number of art related activities.
