Sumanto Chowdhury’s canvases are the mirror of rural, urban and suburban landscapes. Nature and habitations come simultaneously in his paintings. From the childhood he was impressed by the rural landscape of West Bengal. Presently the cityscape of Hyderabad also attracting him. His past and present experiences create his imaginary world. In Sumanto’s painting colours are very symbolic. Pink, blue, red, yellow, emerald green come together to hold the different moods of a day. His interest in indian miniature painting has a great significant in his works. Detail of the every image both for the interior and exterior shows the narrative tendency of the artist. Stylistically his works are semi-realistic. The unique part of his landscapes is the absence of human being. By the images one can feel their presence only. The wide angle view of the landscape and the endless sky give a thrill to the viewer’s eye.

Sumanto chowdhury is a Hyderabad based artist. He has been working here for last 10 years. He was born in west Bengal and studied B.F.A. from Kala Bhavan, santiniketan. In 2004 he came to Hyderabad and join S.N, school, University of Hyderabad for Masters degree. By 2006 he has completed M.F.A. in printmaking.
